In Japan, thousands of children are placed in foster care due to abuse, neglect, or unsafe home environments. Many of them have never experienced stable attachment or unconditional love.

One foster parent shared the story of a five-year-old girl who, when asked “What would you like to eat?”, could not answer. It was not shyness. She simply had never been given choices before.

A child cannot ask for what they have never known.

Before education, before opportunity, children need safety. They need emotional foundations strong enough to build a future upon.

Supporting the People Who Support Children

Foster parents in Japan care for approximately 6,000 children nationwide.
Many of these children struggle to trust adults or express emotions safely. Foster parenting can be deeply meaningful — and deeply challenging.

Yet foster families often feel isolated. There are only about 5,000 foster households across the entire country, making peer support difficult.

To address this, we launched Japan’s first nationwide online foster parent community, ONE LOVE, in 2020.

This platform connects foster families across regions, reduces isolation, shares critical information, and strengthens the safety net around vulnerable children.
